I've been recording the guitar since 1986 or so. Those first recordings in the garage with multiple boom boxes were pretty rough. I'd have one record my playing the rhythm, and the others record the solo and harmony. Capturing your original tunes has come a long way!

My main electric guitars are an American Fender Fat Strat and Telecaster. I also occasionally play a 7-string Sterling John Petrucci guitar. 

My main acoustic guitars are a Taylor 810 (2013) and a Taylor 310.

I play a 5-string Ibanez Bass Guitar on my recordings, plus a Yamaha classical guitar, and various ukuleles, banjo, mandolin, keyboard, and percussion. I record using Steinberg Cubase and WaveLab, along with some tube mic preamps and direct boxes, through a MOTU audio interface.
